BC Tree Fruits was a big winner when the second annual Cidercraft Awards were handed out on Monday.

The Kelowna company received double gold recognition in the hopped cider category for its Broken Ladder Apple & Hops.

Cidercraft Magazine is the only publication dedicated to cider in Canada and the United States, and BC Tree Fruits is now a two-time winner.

“We are elated to once again be a recipient of a Cidercraft Award and even more delighted to earn double gold in the Hopped category,” cidermaker Nadine Harrison said in a press release. “Craft cider continues to be one of the fastest growing categories in the beverage sector.

“BC Tree Fruits Cider Company is an authentic homegrown producer with our handpicked fruits being crushed in our mill, the juice then fermented and packaged all on site in our cidery with no added water or processed sugar.”

The winners were selected from more than 30 judges who tested more than 450 products that were submitted from around the world. There were 14 categories, and each one featured double gold, gold, silver and bronze winners.

The company’s original cider, Broken Ladder Apples, debuted in 2015, and in 2016 it added two new varieties, Pears and Apples & Hops. Pears & Peaches was the fourth cider added to the fold in 2017.
