An Okanagan College School of Business team won the regional Winning Pitch competition on Wednesday at the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association Summit in Osoyoos.

Four teams from Okanagan College and Thompson Rivers University took part in the competition, which is open to post-secondary students. Each squad had 10 minutes to come up with a product or service that supports the development of accessible tourism opportunities in the region.

The Okanagan College team, made up of Bryan Cresswell, Celina Matte, Emily Pilon, and Zackery Plaxton, captured top spot with a proposal called “AccessFest.”

“They hit the mark on something that we have been wanting to do in our region,” judge Sonja Gaudet said in a press release. Another judge, Diana Stirling, said the team’s “approach was innovative, the idea is applicable, and there are scalability opportunities.”

The Okanagan College squad will now advance to the provincial final, which will take place at the 2019 BC Tourism Industry Conference in Vancouver.
