Delta is going to get a casino.

The BC Lottery Corporation approved a new gambling and entertainment facility today. It will be operated by Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited, and it will include a hotel, restaurants, meeting space and a casino with approximately 500 slot machines, 24 tables games and up to six electronic table games.

The project underwent an extensive review over the last two years, following the decision to close the nearby Newton Community Gaming Centre. Delta was BCLC’s first choice, and the city granted its final approval in May.

Richmond filed an objection with the BCLC, citing crime, traffic and transportation concerns, but a mediator ruled it did not provide supporting documentation to substantiate its worry.

Construction of the facility at the Delta Town and Country Inn site will begin in early 2019, with the casino expected to open mid-2020.
