Ski resorts opening soon

It’s cold and it’s snowy up at Vernon’s SilverStar Mountain Resort, and the weather seems to be right on track for their Nov. 22 anticipated opening day.

Big White Ski Resort is also set to open on Nov. 22, while Apex Mountain Resort near Penticton won’t open until Dec. 8.

“We’ve already got a 29 centimetre base, and we’re up there working right now track packing all the runs. That’s our initial part in pushing the snow down,” said Ian Jenkins, SilverStar’s sales and marketing director. “We’re supposed to get a cold front in next, so we will start working on our pond.”

New this year at SilverStar is a gondola, which will run for its first-ever winter season.

“We’re going to have the grand opening on the gondola because it’s new this year, so we’re really excited about doing that,” Jenkins said.

Nordic skiing at SilverStar is set to open on Nov. 16, which is six days earlier than the Alpine opening day.

As of now, SilverStar has almost hired for every position at the resort, but positions continue to open up throughout the season.

If you are interested in applying for a position at SilverStar check out their website and apply online.
