Okanagan College this week is conducting an information session for one of its programs that brings a wide variety of students into one classroom.

The school’s Audio Engineering and Music Production certificate course will begin Jan. 7, and it will be hosting an information session about it on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on its Kelowna campus.

“One of the really unique things about the AEMP certificate was the wide array of students, each who had something different they wanted to do with their education,” former professional figure skater Nina Greschner said in a press release.

“You’ve got this one educational program that is appealing to DJs, musicians, stage production workers and business owners. It was really neat to hear everyone’s plans.”

Greschner used the program to start her own business, Composed Music Services in her hometown of Revelstoke, after more than 30 years on the figure skating ice.

“I envisioned a niche business helping coaches and choreographers eliminate the problem solving of music and focus their attention on the creation of the performance,” Greschner said. “I knew I needed a better technical understanding of music editing, and how to achieve the perfect tone and energy.”

The small class size allows for hands-on instruction, and the instructors can also play a role in helping students get their business ideas off the ground.

“It is focused on a learner-centered approach, and I work with each student to help them identify and meet their goals within the training,” lead instructor Corey Bell said.
