Industry experts believe skiing and snowboarding are enjoying a surge in popularity, and that was reflected on Friday and Saturday when Big White Ski Club held its annual ski swap.

There was a significant attendance increase this year, and that resulted in a 30 per cent sales increase over last year. The Canadian Ski Patrol’s ski swap, held in September, also experienced an increase in sales numbers.

“The club is very happy with the support of the Okanagan community for our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Big White Ski Club president Dave Willoughby said. “The ski swap involved over 200 volunteers, and we are fortunate to have help from many key areas. I’d also like to thank our sponsors and the New Life Church for allowing the club to utilize their facility every year.”

Olympic gold medallist Kelsey Serwa and Ned Ireland, who is also a member of Canada’s ski-cross team, attended the ski swap over the weekend, signing posters and meeting with the next generation of skiers. Both are graduates of the Big White Ski Club program.
