The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce will host a proportional representation debate luncheon on Wednesday at Coast Capri Hotel.

Marina Dobrinskaya, who is representing the “yes” side, and Bill Tieleman, who is arguing for the “no” supporters, will have their say in preparation for the referendum that will determine the format of future provincial elections. B.C. residents will vote via mail between Oct. 22 and Nov. 30 on the issue.

Dobrinskaya is the B.C. director at the Broadbent Institute, an independent national organization that champions change through the promotion of democracy, equality, and sustainability, and the training of a new generation of leaders. She is active in the Vision Vancouver party.

Tieleman is one of BC’s best-known political strategists and campaigners, and played leading roles in winning three consecutive B.C. binding referendums. Tieleman was previously communications director to former B.C. premier Glen Clark and also B.C. Federation of Labour communications director.

Dobrinskaya and Tieleman both received $500,000 in B.C. taxpayers’ money to campaign for their side in the proportional representation debate.

Wednesday’s luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m.
