In the dating scene, experts say cannabis can be an aphrodisiac for some and a deal-breaker for others.

Steven Bisson, a 50-year-old marijuana user in Toronto, says he has broken up with partners, and been dumped himself, over issues surrounding his cannabis use.

In his current relationship, however, Bisson says sparking up with his significant other brought them closer together.

As legalization looms on Oct. 17, experts say cannabis compatibility may take on a larger role in the world of romance.

They say singles are navigating hazy new rules of a marijuana-infused courtship and couples might be considering shaking up their routine with a new substance.

Cannabis-friendly social networking app High There!, which has been touted as the “Tinder for tokers,” is also looking to expand its digital footprint in Canada.

High Life! founder and CEO Darren Roberts says the app caters to single stoners who may struggle to find a match on traditional dating sites.

The Toronto-based owner of Pleasure Peaks, which offers cannabis products aimed at improving women’s sexual health, says there can also be benefits to bringing bud into the bedroom.

Antuanette Gomez says cannabis use can cause tension in some relationships, and she believes a couple’s chances of success will come down to compromise.

University of Alberta sociology professor Geraint Osborne says bringing any substance into a relationship comes with romantic risks and benefits, and the potential impacts of cannabis largely overlap with those posed by alcohol.
