The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating small businesses for the next week.

Friday will mark the start of Small Business Week 2018, which will feature four events and one announcement. Small Business Week, which is co-ordinated by the Business Development Bank of Canada, is a national celebration of Canadian entrepreneurs and their contribution to the nation’s economy.

It’s so popular that the first event in Kelowna, a governance training workshop on Saturday, is already sold out.

The chamber will announce its business leader of the year award on Tuesday but present it on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at its Business Excellence Awards Gala event.

A lunchtime workshop on Tuesday will examine how mindfulness reduces chronic stress, a chamber luncheon about proportional representation will be on Wednesday at Coast Capri Hotel, and the monthly Commerce ConneX is scheduled for Thursday from 5-7 p.m. with the new owners of Sunshine Pools and Spas on Springfield Road.

“Chambers across the country celebrate small businesses during this week with events, workshops and social media posts,” Kelowna chamber president Carmen Sparg said in a press release. “The events help spotlight the role the 1.3 million small businesses in Canada play in our economy: 98% of Canadian businesses are small to medium-sized.”
