The British Columbia Utilities Commission has approved FortisBC’s application to provide credits to customers who were evacuated this summer due to floods and wildfires.

There were 2,623 gas and electric customers under an evacuation order due to this year’s floods and wildfires, and they will not have to pay for the energy they were charged while they were out of their homes.

“We always look to find ways to support our customers during difficult times,” FortisBC vice-president of customer service Dawn Mehrer said in a press release. “Given that many customers were forced from their homes due to evacuations, we are providing a bill credit to cover energy used during this time.”
