The Child Care Awards of Excellence recently recognized the work of a Kelowna daycare.
Little Owl Academy received the Innovation Award from the B.C. government for its programs that provide the centre’s children with access to unique learning opportunities.
The daycare works with the Pacific Assistance Dog Society, including a puppy named Sandy III that is training to become a support dog. It also uses the FreshGrade online program that tracks each child’s academic and emotional progress.
The academy’s staff, which cares for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children, are also certified in BrainGym, an exercise program that helps shed excess energy and promote learning.
The employees are also certified in Rainbow Kids Yoga and American Sign Language.
