A work camp will soon be set up in Princeton for employees who will be building a new medical marijuana facility worth $21.5 million.

Town council approved a 12-month temporary permit for a work camp at the site where the facility will be built, in the town’s industrial park.

Mayor Frank Armitage said 40-50 staff will be building the plant, with construction expected to begin in early October.

Apart from jobs related to construction, Armitage said the facility itself will bring 95 jobs when it first opens in 2019 and, once fully open by 2020, will employ about 195 people.

Phase one of the project, a 79,000-square-foot “advanced indoor facility” is expected to be open by next spring.

By early 2020, the site will also include a 10,000-square-foot extraction lab and a 20,000-square-foot research facility, bringing the total square footage to 109,000.

BC Green Pharmaceuticals purchased three industrial lots last month at Princeton-Summerland Road and Old Hedley Road where the plant will be built.
