Prospera Credit Union has retained the naming rights to Kelowna’s downtown arena for the next five years.

The financial institution and GSL Group made the announcement Tuesday.

The new contract will kick in next year and run through 2024.

Prospera has held the naming rights to the more than 6,000-seat arena since 2003, after the original rights-holder, Skyreach Equipment, dropped out.

“Back in 2003, our Prospera team was very excited to extend our credit union operations to serve the Okanagan community,” Prospera’s president and CEO Shawn Good said.

“In the many years since, we have put down roots, built strong relationships and expanded operations to serve members through our four branches. Supporting the local community is important to us as a co-operative and we’re thrilled to continue our arena partnership for an additional five years.”

Financial terms were not announced, but it’s believed to be for more than $120,000 a year.

Prospera Place was completed in 1999.

Ownership of the building will transfer over to the city in 2029.
