Housing starts in Kelowna were up in July over last year at this time, but they are down substantially overall in 2018.
The Canadian Mortgage Housing Corporation released the statistics on Thursday morning, and it showed Kelowna had 112 apartment starts in July. That is nearly triple last year’s July mark of 41 starts.
On the other hand, there were 46 single dwelling starts in July compared to 87 in July 2017.
Overall, there have been 1,058 apartment starts in 2018. There were 1,449 last year at this time.
The numbers are up across the board in Vernon, where there were 60 housing starts overall in July compared to last year’s July total of 31.
