Bus eatery forges ahead

With Greyhound planning to cease operations in Western Canada at the end of October, the fate of a popular restaurant is up in the air.

EATology has been leasing a space in the Vernon Greyhound bus terminal for three years, but when Greyhound stops operating, what will happen to the downtown restaurant?

It is not uncommon to see a line up of customers on the sidewalk waiting to get into the eatery and owner Christina Klein is weighing her options for the future of the restaurant.

“I just found out a few days ago, so currently we are exploring our options,” said Klein. “Hopefully we can stay here, but we are exploring our options so we are not really sure. If we do move, it would be nice to find a slightly bigger location with a patio.”

Klein admits when she first found out Greyhound was closing she was “stressed out,” but now she is looking at it as a blessing in disguise.

If the eatery can stay in the Greyhound building, Klein was wondering if they could expand into the existing building.

Or, they may move entirely, but either way, EATology will still be serving meals to their loyal customers.

“We’ll still be here, either here or somewhere else, but we’re not ending,” said Klein.

Greyhound announced earlier this week it is ending its passenger bus and freight services in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and cancelling all but one route in B.C. — a U.S.-run service between Vancouver and Seattle.
