B.C. wine sales have never been more red hot—or white hot, if that’s your preference.

The BC Wine Institute announced Monday that BC Vintners Quality Alliance sales were up eight per cent in April, which propelled the total provincial market share to a record 18.3 percent for the rolling 12-month period that ended April 30.

“It’s tremendous to see the local support we have. These results far exceeded our expectations,” BC Wine Institute president and CEO Mile Prodan said. “Really, it’s about enjoying what’s in the glass, and that represents 100 per cent BC.”

The provincial government declared April as B.C.’s official wine month, and consumers clearly bought into the initiative created by BC Wine Institute, the Ministry of Agriculture and Destination BC. The celebration included wine events, tastings and learning.

“BC Wine Month was a great success in introducing and reminding British Columbians of the diverse and rewarding local options available, and how well they pair with B.C. food,” Minister of Agriculture Lana Popham said.

“I encourage all wine appreciators to keep the momentum growing, and continue to enjoy and support the excellent vineyards and winemakers we have in our province.”
