The Penticton RCMP is turning up the pressure on marijuana dispensaries operating in the city.

Const. James Grandy said the detachment’s targeted enforcement unit visited Green Essence on Martin Street Monday to warn them about selling cannabis.

“Officers warned the owner that should they continue to sell illegal marijuana, there may be enforcement action taken,” Grandy said, adding officers were told the store would be closed down.

The pot shop was, however, operating Tuesday morning. The store’s management could not immediately be reached for comment. This is the second similar warning for the business from the RCMP.

The dispensary was one of two shops in Penticton that signed court orders promising to not sell cannabis at their storefronts. Both Green Essence and Okanagan Cannabinoid Therapy continue to advertise the sale of marijuana at their stores online.

The move comes less than two weeks after officers raided and closed the Herbal Greens dispensary in OK Falls.
