All 203 piles that will support the foundation of the One Water Street development’s East Tower are now in the ground, and that’s good news for a local charity.
On Feb. 13, when Kerkhoff Construction and North American Development Group officially broke ground on the project, they pledged to give one dollar from every foot of pile used to JoeAnna’s House.
The charity operates a home for family members who want to stay close to their loved ones while they receive treatment at Kelowna General Hospital.
Today, One Water’s developers handed Doug Rankmore, the CEO of the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, a cheque for $29,435 forJoeAnna’s House.
“The piling is complete with the last of the East Tower’s 203 piles inserted on the first of May. We’ve added it all up, and with each pile measuring 145 feet in length, that’s 29,435 feet. Laid end-to-end, they would stretch five-and-a-half miles,” says Leonard Kerkhoff, the vice president of Kerkhoff Construction.
“As we said at the groundbreaking, community-building is part of the reason we’ve committed to this project, and with so many others in Kelowna who contribute in their own way, we really want to share some of our success with this project and give something back to the community,” Kerkhoff added.
Kerkhoff said the fast-tracking of the project’s West Tower have spurred the developers to start public sales of its units May 26.
