The executive director of the Summerland Chamber of Commerce has resigned after six years in her position, the chamber announced on Thursday.

Christine Petkau is departing to “pursue new challenges,” and her last day will be on May 4.

“I can honestly say that being executive director for the Summerland Chamber for the past six years has been among my most rewarding career experiences,” Petkau said.

“I have had the pleasure of leading a wonderful staff group and working with caring and knowledgeable board members.”

In her tenure, Petkau has initiated tourism services downtown, started a community task force and raised the profile of the Summerland Festival of Lights, among other feats.

“On behalf of the Summerland Chamber board of directors, I would like to thank Christine for her hard work, expertise and dedication to the community,” past president Erick Thompson said in a news release.

The board is in the process of looking for a new executive director, and said members will be informed when the position is filled.
