Kelowna residents looking for a casual pint will soon have a new option—at one of the city’s most popular pizza joints.

DunnEnzies has just finished up a major expansion and renovation that has seen it install a full bar and seating for approximately 50 more people at its Ellis Street location in downtown Kelowna.

“We’ve been thinking for a few years that the only thing that really makes pizza better would be beer,” says co-owner Karyn Mackenzie.

Mackenzie says she and her partner Deb Dunnigan have been working on getting licensed since the beginning of the year, after they were offered the opportunity to take over the home of their former next-door neighbour, MilkCrate Records.

She says the new space features a full bar with a selection of local craft beers and wines; a new tapas menu; seating for as many as 60 people; long community tables; and washrooms.

Mackenzie says the expansion also means more room at the previously cramped counter, making the late-night weekend crowds easier to navigate.

She says her and Dunnigan’s vision is for a casual, pub-style space where the community comes together.

“We’re hoping to kind of create a little community space where you can have a few beers with colleagues after work, or come in for a little while before a concert, or have a casual dinner with your family,” she says.

The shop will still run on its regular summer hours, with liquor service shutting down at midnight and late-night counter service continuing on until 3 a.m.

Mackenzie says DunnEnzies’ other two locations will also start serving alcohol as well before the start of the summer, although in a scaled-down fashion.
