A respected naturopathic doctor from the North Okanagan will lead the True Leaf Medicine’s medical advisory board.

Dr. Chris Spooner—who has more than 20 years experience in naturopathic medicine and sits on the board of theCollege of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia—will take on the role of chief scientific officer.

Joining Spooner on the board will be Dr. Caroline MacCallum and Dr. Zeid Mohamedali, “two of the most progressive medical doctors advising the cannabis industry today,” according to True Leaf.

The True Leaf MAB will oversee the research and development of a medicinal cannabis product line to address, among others, neurological, musculoskeletal, gynaecological, and gastrointestinal conditions.

Spooner said he and his colleagues on the board “want to help True Leaf build trust in the medical community.

“Companies like True Leaf are reshaping how we view many medical conditions. Traditional treatment algorithms are being modified to accommodate the inclusion of cannabis. The True Leaf MAB will be using unique plant chemovars, nanotechnology, genetics, and much more to provide cutting edge treatments. We hope our efforts will have a dramatic impact on many patients and their loved ones,’ added Mohamedali.

In addition to its new MAB, earlier this month True Leaf hired Stephen Schroeder and Christian Zofchak to lead the development of its medicinal cannabis products.

True Leaf has been manufacturing cannabis pet chews for years and recently received permission from Health Canada to build its True Leaf Campus cannabis cultivation facility, which it broke ground for on March 2.

The 25,000 square foot facility is expected to be completed in late summer 2018.

True Leaf is also in the final stages of Health Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations process.
