Big White Ski Resort will make its biggest-ever single-year investment this year when it drops $10 million on infrastructure for the hill.

The resort says a large chunk of that money, $3.9 million, will be put toward construction of a new Powder Chair.

The four-passenger, fixed-grip lift will replace the 40-year-old triple chair, increasing passenger capacity by 1,900 per hour.

Along with the new lift, Big White will pony up $1.5 million to widen the tunnel on the Hummingbird run from 25 to 60 feet; and $1.1 million for new trails and a slopestyle course for mountain bikers.

The resort will also put approximately $2.5 million into maintenance, water and sewer upgrades, as well as a new shuttle bus.

“My grandfather, Desmond Schumann, would be proud of what we’re doing here at the resort and I am confident all of these projects will be accomplished provided Mother Nature cooperates with an exceptional spring skiing season and melting our over eight metres of cumulative snowfall,” third generation president and CEO Peter Plimmer said of the projects.
