Public input is being sought to identify Penticton’s greatest challenge as a city.

Smart Cities Penticton is a group aiming to put together an entry for the federal government’s Smart Cities grant program, which could earn the city up to $10M to go toward a large, community-selected and tech-based goal.

They have recently launched an online survey with the aim of gauging public opinion on three key challenges: connection, health and sustainability.

The final challenge statement, which will be submitted to the Smart Cities challenge by April 24, will encompass all of the community input gained from the survey.

“The Smart Cities Challenge is a unique opportunity that aims to discover the views of its community and empower the communities themselves to find a tech-based solution to that challenge,“ said Keith MacIntyre, leader of the committee. “We have met with Infrastructure Canada and have every reason to believe that we are on the right track.”

The survey has currently been completed by 469 respondents, and the group hopes to exceed 750 by the time it is taken down in roughly one week.

It can be completed in under five minutes, and can be found at the Smart Cities Penticton website here.

The committee said calls the Smart Cities Challenge “an opportunity to raise the level of dialogue in Penticton and uncover a solution to a common need that will better serve the entire community.”
