True Leaf will officially break ground on its new production facility early next month.

The cannabis company says it will kick off construction of its 25,000-square-foot medicinal cannabis grow facility March 2.

CEO Darcy Bomford says March construction will kick off Phase 1 of a 16,000-square-foot hydroponic grow building, and a 9,000-square-foot building housing laboratory services, extraction, and post-production processing.

Bomford says construction should be done by this summer, with the facility’s first crop ready by the fall.

True Leaf officially bought the 40-acre property the building will sit on Jan. 19, paying $3.3 million for the Lumby property that currently houses its production facility.

The company used a portion of the proceeds from its recent $10 million round of Regulation A+ financing to pay for the Lumby site.

Bomford has said in the past that, once True Leaf gets Health Canada approval, it will be able to produce about 2,500 kilograms of dried cannabis a year.

As its production grows, Bomford says he believes True Leaf will become “a significant employer in Lumby.”
