A prominent Kelowna businessman has passed away.

Joshua Zieske died unexpectedly earlier this week. He was 41.

Zieske was one of three co-founders of Vineyard Networks, a tech company that provides network traffic monitoring and management solutions for resolving network and application performance problems.

Zieske established the company in 2008, along with Jason Richards and Derek Lownsbrough. Five years later, they sold it to Procera, a Silicon Valley-based company for Cdn $28 million.

Zieske was also prominent within the rugby community. He played for a number of years and was one of the founding members of the Central Okanagan Rugby Enthusiasts.

Friends are remembering Zieske on a dedicated Facebook page.

“Remembering the good times I got to share growing up with Josh Zieske! One of the smartest and strongest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. You will be missed, Friend! Gone way too soon. This is devastating news for many,” Mayor Colin Basran wrote.

“Josh was a true inspiration to be around and to work with, and I owe him a great deal when it comes to personal growth,” said Johan ‘wertigo’ Schyberg, from Sweden.

“I had the pleasure of playing with Josh in 2008/2009. As a young (Kelowna) Crow I learned a lot from him, he was always patient, kind, fierce on the field and gentle off, he was a great example,” said Cameron David Pierce.

A celebration of life will be held at the Kelowna Yacht Club Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
