Kelowna’s Turner Volkswagen moved into its new Enterprise Way location on Monday, quadrupling its size in the process.

According to the dealership’s general manager, Aaron Fanslau, the move is a monumental one for the shop, which had been at its previous location for 44 years.

“It was a pretty big move,” Fanslau said, explaining that the shop has been growing for some time and had become “pretty cramped for space.”

The new dealership, at 2150 Enterprise Way, is about 32,000 square feet—compared to the 8,000 square feet at its former location.

“Our showroom is almost the size of what our whole store was before,” Fanslau said. “We took a pretty big leap forward. We’re setting ourselves up with this facility.”

He said the extra space will give Turner Volkswagen a lot more “breathing room,” and allow more “growth for the future,” especially in their service department.

He said the expansion will prompt him to bring in a much bigger inventory, as well as additional sales staff.

Turner is just one of many dealerships in Kelowna that have undergone a significant expansion in recent years. Fanslau says the car market is in great shape right now, and that’s prompting a lot of growth in Kelowna.

“Obviously we know how fast Kelowna is growing, and then you combine that with a pretty strong economy here. I think a lot of guys had been in their stores for quite some time, and they just found themselves under-facilitied,” he said.

One of the first things many people do when they move to a new city is get a new car, and with so much migration into Kelowna, it makes sense sales would be booming.

Like many dealerships in town, Turner is coming off back-to-back record-breaking years, and they expect the trend to continue in 2018.
