Final Top 20 winners announced

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce has announced the final ten recipients of its Top 20 under 40 awards. The program recognizes top young professionals and community builders under the age of 40.

The ten newly announced winners include a lawyer, several business owners, and an acupuncturist. They join ten other winners who were previously announced.

“The caliber of nominees this year was significant. With over 60 nominees, the judges had a formidable task picking the Top 20 Under 40. It is a great opportunity for recognizing those individuals who are working hard, taking risks and dreaming big,” says Dione Chambers, the chamber’s general manager.

The final ten recipients were selected among close to sixty nominations. They include:

  • Dr. Darcie Weglo, the owner of Creekside Dynamic Health. Weglo “empowers people to be the best that they can be,” supports the Women’s Transition House and Vernon’s food bank, and is focused on creating Vernon’s premier multidisciplinary health centre;
  • Robbie Donaldson, the vice president of Chambers Groups of Companies, is highly motivated, carries a huge responsibility of overseeing close to 500 employees, and has his eye on growth opportunities for the organization;
  • Pearl Scott-Marten, a local business woman, spatial designer and real property developer. Scott-Marten is the founder and director of Smoke and Powder Design Inc. and Underground beverages. She is also the co-founder and director of the Naked Pig BBQ, Marten Brewing Co.; the co-director of Aurora West Developments; and co-founder and director of Marten Holdings;
  • Sarah Moorhouse, the assistant manager of marketing and promotions at Okanagan Restoration Services. Moorhouse is currently on the executive for JCI Vernon and is the past co-chair of the hospital gala. She is passionate about her community and has volunteered as the team lead for The Coldest Night of the Year 2017, sat on several community organization boards;
  • Stephen Russell, the owner and operator of Roost Solar and currently the Okanagan’s only NEBCEP certified installer. Russell is active in the Rotary Club of Kalmalka and sits as the vice chair on the Okanagan Science Centre board;
  • David Scarlatescu, the owner of The Sprouted Fig, who has a passion for sales and a love for collaborating with other local partners. Scarlatescu brings a fresh, youthful perspective to the downtown restaurant scene;
  • Katie Matheson, the owner of Spruce Salon. Matheson is passionate about education within the Aveda network, and is a lead Educator within the Aveda network, mentoring other stylists throughout Western Canada. Through Aveda Canada, Spruce salon is partnered to support clean water and sanitation projects around the world;
  • Jenna Roze, an acupuncturist and the owner of Red Bird Acupuncture Clinic. Roze is an educator on acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.  She created Wellness in the Park, and teamed up with other practitioners to offer treatments by donation to help raise money for the Women’s Transition House;
  • Krystin Kempton, a lawyer at Nixon Wenger LLP, with a general solicitor’s practice and growing clientele. Krystin is a self-starter, involved in the community through the Canadian Women’s Bar Association Women’s Lawyers Forum mentorship program, on the Board for the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, director for North Okanagan Cycling Society, and a director for the Downtown Vernon Association.
