The city of West Kelowna has agreed to drop $450,000 on a property next to the Rosewood Sports Field.

The 3.72 acres the city plans to purchase sits at 1506 Rose Meadow Dr., and will eventually be turned into a city sports field.

Although the city hasn’t yet developed a park plan for the new site, it’s a prime candidate for the indoor soccer facility the Westside Youth Soccer Association is currently trying to build.

The association has already raised close to $1 million towards an inflatable indoor soccer dome, but so far the city has struggled to find a place to put it.

According to Nancy Henderson, West Kelowna’s director of development services, the city will actually only buy a portion of what was a 4.2-acre property at Rose Meadow Drive.

Henderson said that Pentar Homes Ltd., the developer behind the Rose Valley subdivision, owns the property, and will keep the remaining acre that fronts Rose Meadow Drive, in anticipation of rezoning it for more development.

The $450,000 West Kelowna will spend on its portion of the property will be paid for by parkland acquisition charges collected at the time of its development.

The sale should be finalized by December of this year.
