Reimer Bros. Trucking has a plan to build a large shop on its Armstrong property.

Building permits are way up in Armstrong, and a local area business is adding to its premises.

On Tuesday, city council approved a development permit application on behalf of Reimer Bros. Trucking for a 10,000 sq. ft. shop at its 2250 Kirton Avenue site.

“They are a good corporate member of our community,” said Mayor Chris Pieper. “This is a shop to repair their trucking fleet, with three bays, and it will bring jobs to the community.”

Pieper said 2017 could end up being one of the busiest construction years ever in Armstrong.

As of September, building permits had been issued for 38 new units, mostly houses, with a total value of $15 million. Last year at the same time, a total of 23 permits had been issued with a total value of $6.8 million, the mayor said.

“It is a busy time for builders in our community as it is in the whole of the North Okanagan…We’re at the top end of our growth projections.”
