Construction of a $13 million apartment complex will soon begin on Enterprise Way in Kelowna.

The 87-unit rental building is set to go up just off the banks of Mill Creek, across the street from the recently proposed Hyatt hotel complex.

The property has been vacant for a number of years, primarily because it is an irregularly shaped lot that was impacted when the city relocated Enterprise Way in 1996.

Kelowna City Council gave the project the go-ahead earlier this year, and the City of Kelowna has just issued a building permit for the new building, pegging its cost at $12.8 million.

The four-storey building was designed by Meiklejohn Architects, and Mission Group is taking on the construction.

According to a City of Kelowna report, the building will be made up entirely of rental units, and contain 19 micro-suites, 17 one-bedroom units, and 51 two-bedroom units.

The site has been designed with the building in an L-shape configuration, respecting the riparian area of Mill Creek, with a portion of the building in close proximity to Enterprise Way to create an active streetscape.

The other portion of the building is located farther from Enterprise Way to allow natural light into the site with a small surface parking lot for visitor stalls. Many of the units will face Mill Creek and take advantage of the natural riparian area setting with views to the creek.

More information on the project is available through the City of Kelowna online.
