The Okanagan’s social entrepreneurs will soon get a chance to shine, when Okanagan Changemakers brings back its ChangeUp pitch competition later this year.

The third annual pitch night will see entrepreneurs with a passion for social change show off their ideas for tackling some of the community’s most difficult challenges.

This will be the competition’s third year, and this year it will feature three youth and three adult finalists, whittled down from a pool of online applicants who will submit their concepts on the Okanagan Changemakers’ website.

Through live voting, the audience will select its favourite social impact initiative in each category. The winners stand to earn cash and mentoring services.

Along with the pitch competition, Murad Al-Katib, the Ernst & Young Global Entrepreneur of the Year and founder of AGT Foods and Ingredients, will be on hand as a guest speaker.

Under Al-Katib’s leadership, AGT has delivered 700 million refugee meals made of Saskatchewan lentils, chickpeas and wheat into the United Nations and International Red Cross and Red Crescent Syrian refugee programs.

Anyone interested in pitching at ChangeUP can fill out an online application on the Okanagan Changemakers website.  Submission need to be in by Sept. 30.

This year’s competition will take place Nov. 2 at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Tickets are available via Okanagan Changemakers website.
