Delta Grand Okanagan Resort’s Executive Chef Iain Rennie, 47, has died.
Rennie, who lead the resort’s culinary team since October 2014, died on Aug. 14.
“Iain had a twinkle in his eye and a heart of gold,” reads his obituary posted in The Province.
Rennie grew up in Parksville and at a young age discovered his love of cooking. He travelled to his first ever food show in Seattle, Washington with his father when he was 11.
He went on to graduate with honours from Vancouver Island University Culinary program and rose to the top of the culinary scene working as Executive Chef at many top hotels in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna.
The resort said on Facebook that Chef Rennie was “an incredibly talented Chef, dedicated mentor and great friend to all those who knew and worked with him.”
Rennie successfully launched the OAK + CRU Social Kitchen & Wine Bar in 2016.
He obtained 18 gold medals and five silver medals in world culinary competitions. Rennie was a member of Culinary Team Canada and participated in the Culinary Championships in Germany earned two gold and one silver medal.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday at the Quality Resort Bayside in Parksville at 2 p.m. and also another one will be held at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort in the next coming months.
