Kelowna has been chosen as one of six stops on an international craft beer tour.

Later this month, Four Points Sheraton will bring its “Best Brews Around the World Brew Off Tour” to the city.

The tour kicked off in New York City this summer, before hitting Mexico in early August. Kelowna is the third stop of the tour, which will continue on to Australia in September, and finish in Barcelona later this year.

The tour pits two local brews in a “head-to-head” competition, not just for glory, but for the title of the hotel’s newest Best Brew.

Prohibition Brewing and Tree Brewing will be slinging suds at the Kelowna event, vying for the “Best Brew” title.

The idea of the globe-spanning tour, according to Four Points’ global brand manager Callette Nielsen, is to celebrate the chain’s initiative to have each of its 225-plus hotels around the world showcases a local, craft beer—chosen based on “taste, popularity, quality and proximity to the property.”

“Four Points has a love for locally crafted beers, which is why we’re traveling to the far corners of the globe to discover the best brews the world has to offer,” said Nielsen.

“With the launch of our ‘Best Brews Around the World’ tour, we are taking our love of beer on the road. From Manhattan to Barcelona and Melbourne to Nairobi. We invite local beer lovers and thirsty travellers to join us as we discover new best brews.”

The Kelowna competition will take place Aug. 23 at the  Four Points by Sheraton Kelowna Airport.

“This event is aimed at bringing tourists to Kelowna from near and far, and giving residents a break from all they’ve had to deal with this summer. The winning beer will be awarded the title of Four Points Kelowna Airport Best Brew,” says hotel representative Anna Porter.
