After months of tantalizing passersby with signs promising an opening, the authentic Italian pizza chain Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria officially opened its doors in Kelowna today.
Liz Markulin runs the restaurant with her managing partner Seth Carlyle. The pair relocated from Jasper after they were offered the opportunity to run their own franchise here in the Okanagan.
“It was kind of something we just couldn’t say no to, if we could actually get it done, and we did,” Markulin said.
She says her and Carlyle’s Famoso stays true to the franchise— with its authentic Italian pizza, fire-baked in an imported oven using special Italian tomatoes and flour—while offering a few unique twists.
“With this Famoso, we’re kind of like the Famoso 2.0,” she says.
The pair offer a more extensive appetizer menu than usual, and have made a lounge a focus of the restaurant.
Markulin says that, once they get permission, they will also build a sidewalk and courtyard patio.
The Kelowna Famoso will also serve a wine tasting paddle, something no other Famoso franchise does.
Famoso Pizzeria and Bar is located in Sopa Square, at 3030 Pandosy Street. It’s open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. until midnight.
