The Y will help you get a job

The most recent YMCA Youth Employment grad class saw eleven out of twelve attendees obtain jobs before finishing the program.
The YMCA of the Okanagan is looking to give a few young people a leg up in their job searches, by giving them weeks of career counselling free of charge.
The program, which is available to eligible individuals 30 years old and younger, aims to give its participants a competitive advantage in the labour market.
Through either a four or fifteen week program, the Y will support students by helping them build valuable work skills, determine career goals, gain certifications, job search skills and more.
YMCA Youth Employment programs are free, and even pay attendees a training allowance.
“These youth are driven and talented, but often lack the tools and confidence to determine what it is they want and how to go after it,” says Jen Pont, the YMCA’s youth employment supervisor. “This is where our employment advisors provide support and empower these bright individuals to take the first step. From there, the sky is the limit.”
“We believe that building a solid foundation in one’s career is crucial for the success of individuals and of our community,” Pont continues. “Of our last training group, 11 of 12 students were hired before the program even ended.”
The registration cut-off for the next YMCA Youth Employment program is July 21, but there will be also programs offered in August and September as well. Early registration is recommended.
