In less than a year the former Paramount Theatre on will open its doors once again, but this time taps will replace the screens.

CRAFT Beer Market has announced it will open in the Bernard Avenue location by “early 2018.”

The Calgary-based chain is known for the extensive collection of beer on tap (each of its five locations across the country offers more than 100 different drafts), which vary from the local to the far-flung.

“We are extremely excited to be joining the Kelowna community,” says PJ L’Heureux, the president and founder of CRAFT Beer Market. “We are looking forward to sharing our love of craft beer and local food with the community while preserving the building’s historic roots.”

The chain’s new Kelowna location will feature 482 seats, as well as a rooftop patio with heating.

L’Heureux says the interior will feature open architecture, surrounding the chain’s signature island bar, and open kitchen and a private room and mezzanine for private events.

The Market will occupy about 75 per cent of the building, while a commercial/retail tenant would take over the rest.

As part of the renovation of the old Paramount Theatre, the CRAFT Beer Market also committed to refurbishing the iconic Paramount Sign. As construction has progressed at the property, the sign has already been given a gleaming coat of paint.

“We recognize the important role the Paramount Theatre played in this community and we want to continue to honour its legacy,” says L’Heureux.
