A local startup hopes to help residents who recently lost their homes in the devastating Water’s Edge structure fire.

Happipad, a Kelowna-based software company, will host a community night July 17 to give former Water’s Edge and Walnut Grove Motel residents an opportunity to connect with local landlords and property developers.

Cailan Libby, the company’s CEO and co-founder, says he’s invited local landlords and property developers to a networking-type event Monday night, to try and make it as easy as possible for fire victims to find a new place to live.

With more than 50 people now looking for a new home, Libby said he was worried too many will be left hanging as they try to individually wade through listings and classified ads.

“We just thought, hey let’s host a community night here, and just invite all the residents out, and the landlords. People can meet face-to-face and hopefully we can find accommodations for everyone,” Libby says.

Along with a chance to meet with several landlords all in the same place, Libby is also giving residents the opportunity to use Happipad software free of charge.

Happipad is a new online platform that connects landlords and prospective tenants, and for both to complete the entire rental process “quickly and easily” online.

Libby encourages landlords with both short and long-term rentals to attend the evening, as well as any Walnut Grove or Water’s Edge residents looking for a place to stay.

The event will be held at Okanagan Co+Lab from 6-9 p.m. July 17. More information is available online.
