A recently purchased, $4 million piece of property will help fuel the continued growth of the Kelowna International Airport.

The City of Kelowna bought the property, at 4440/4444 Bulman Road, in support of the long-term land use strategy for YLW, however it is at the moment subject to an existing and continuing lease with the Okanagan Polo Club.

The club will continue to use the land for the duration of the lease, and hopes to continue to use it until the city eventually needs it for development.

Meanwhile, Airport Director Sam Samaddar says the purchase of the property was “very important to guarantee the long-term success of the airport.”

“We need to ensure that we have the available land to support the future growth of YLW,” he said.

The city bought the 78-acre property for $3.99, and Samaddar called it “a key acquisition,” that was identified in YLW’s Master Plan 2045.

Money for the purchase came from the Airport Reserves, with no contribution from the city’s general taxation.
