Hot summer weather helped drive a record number of people to Big White Ski Resort’s 2017 summer opening, last weekend.

According to Big White representative Natalia Jastrzab, more than 1,000 people rode the Bullet Chair from June 24-25.

Along with plenty of locals, tourists from the US, Norway, Germany and the Philippines all took a ride up the Monashee mountain range.

Along with the chairlift rides, the ski resort’s opening weekend also featured the Craft and Country Beer and Mountain Festival in the village, a free kids carnival and the opening of Big White’s brand new mountain bike skills track.

Jastrzab says festivities will continue next weekend at Big White, when the resort holds its Canada Day celebration in the Village. The celebration will feature cake, and a scavenger hunt featuring 150 prizes hidden around the mountain.
