$50,000 package up for grabs

Kamloops Innovation is giving local startups the chance to win a business-launching package worth more than $50,000.

Any early-stage startup can win the package, which will allow it to work out of Kamloops Innovation’s office space, receive mentorship through the Venture Acceleration Program, five it $10,000 cash to grow the business, as well as access to a “full Kamloops experience,” with tickets to sporting events, shows, and more.

Lincoln Smith, the executive director at Kamloops Innovation, says the organization is looking for entrepreneurs working on a new business idea that need mentorship advice and resources to help launch their startup.

“This is an opportunity for a startup to bring their idea to life in a collaborative and innovative startup community, while discovering all that Kamloops has to offer,” he says.

Arjun Singh, the acting mayor of Kamloops, says the contest is one of the city’s initiatives to attract “talent, new business and new investment.”

“Our goal is to make sure companies and skilled workers are aware of Kamloops when considering where to do business and find employment,” he says.

To win the package startups need to enter a contest be completing an online form, and creating a 60-second video telling the contest judges about themselves and why they should win.

Judges will be drawn from organizations like Kamloops Innovation, Thompson Rivers University, Venture Kamloops, Kamloops Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures, along with local entrepreneurs.

Entries will be evaluated based on merit of startup idea, likelihood of success, community participation and fit within the community.
