Accelerate Okanagan - Apr 20, 2017 - Columnists

There are a number of reasons why we choose to live and work here in the Okanagan.

The region is a hotbed for those who enjoy local craft beer, food, wine, beaches, boats, and the great outdoors during both summer and winter.

But the area has also gained international attention thanks to its reputation as a hub for the tech industry.

We asked some of our community members why they chose to live and work in the sunny Okanagan. Watch the video to see exactly why they think the Okanagan is the heart of the province. Or read on to see our favourite highlights.

Jeff Hoffart, Manager of Operations at Volinspire: “I started getting involved in groups and found social innovation and people who care about this community, and just started networking with some amazing people.”

Richard Takai, Senior Manager of Business Development at Grant Thorton: “We came here for lifestyle, been here nine years now. The opportunities are amazing and endless if you look for them.”

Angela Nagy, Co-Founder and CEO of GreenStep Solutions: “I knew when I was 18 that my purpose in life and passion was to save the world through business. The beauty of a technology company, and developing a business that way, was that I could live and work and play here, but I can still grow a company that’s going to impact business throughout North America.”

Lance Schafer, EiR at Accelerate Okanagan: “It’s an easy place to find your passion, there’s a lot of other tech entrepreneurs and technologists here that you can connect with as well.”

Colin Basran, Mayor of Kelowna: “I was very passionate about the city, and felt like I could make a difference along with all the other people in the community, so the passion has really come easily, but I feed off it from organizations like AO and all the people involved in making Kelowna tha awesome place that it is.”
