He's Got the Edge
A light-hearted Q&A with the people who make the Okanagan work

Name: Max Picton

What business or organization are you involved with?

1. Barefoot Beach Resort;

2. Sun-Oak Construction;

3. City of Penticton

What is your role with that organization?
1. President/Partner;

2. Partner;

3. Councillor

What’s your favorite thing about living in the Okanagan? I absolutely love playing in this region. I’m an outdoor enthusiast and with all the lakes, mountains and rivers there is just so much to enjoy.

If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, who would you choose and why? I would love to have lunch with Peter Diamandis. I could only imagine where a conversation would lead with someone who thinks as big and bold as Peter. This is a man who has a company with the long-term vision to mine asteroids and believes we can send 3D printers into space to build colonies on other planets.

The best part is he has the resume which leads you to believe he could accomplish just that.

What’s your go-to happy place? The mountains! Any day that I can grab my mountain bike, snowboard or RZR and head into the hills is a great day. I feel absolutely spoiled to live in such a beautiful area. I can drive five minutes in any direction and feel a million miles away.

What are you most proud of?
A few years ago I had the honour of receiving the 2012 Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Chamber of Commerce. It was an amazing feeling to be recognized by the local business community.

What are the top three things on your bucket list?
-Attend Crankworx in Whistler;

-Watch Guns N Roses live;

-Bike the Seven Summits trail in Rossland

All of these should be completed by the end of this year. I tend not to leave items on my bucket list for too long.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? That would probably have to be pig ears. They have a strange crunch when
you bite into the cartilage.

Latest movie or book: I’m currently reading The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle. I would highly recommend the book to anyone who would like to unlock their
full potential.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received? For Christmas one year my amazing girlfriend, Desiree, gave me a full
Kenneth Cole suit. It had deep meaning at the time as it signified a great shift forward in my career.

If today were your last day, how would you spend it? Wake up and have a morning coffee with my girl before throwing my bike in the back of my RZR and ripping to the top of a mountain to drop in. After my ride I’d float the channel and then fire up the BBQ with all my family and friends for the evening.
