The Rotary Club of Oliver is is hosting a pair of fundraisers this month to give a boost to health care in the region.

The club’s 19th annual gala dinner and live auction runs April 22 from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Oliver Community Centre. Six local restaurants will serve food paired with wine from six local wineries.

Proceeds are going to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation.

Then on April 30, the Harlem Ambassadors are bringing their hilarious basketball antics to Southern Okanagan Secondary School at 2 p.m. Again, proceeds will go to the SOS Medical Foundation.

Oliver Rotary has pledged $30,000 over three years to the SOSMF campaign to provide medical equipment for the new patient care tower in Penticton.

Past-president Brian Goy said the move to support the Penticton hospital expansion was not a difficult one.

“The volunteers work hard to get those funds from the community and we try very hard to donate to things we feel the community needs and wants,” he said.

“The hospital is something we are all going to use sometime in our life, with the new tower and all the equipment that comes in,” he said. “It would be nice not to have to go to Kelowna (for certain treatments).”
