It appears competition will be fierce for the Woman of the Year Award in Vernon this year.

Vernon Women in Business announced today that a full dozen women from the community have been nominated for the honour in 2017.

The Vernon Woman of the Year Award recognizes women in the Vernon community who display leadership in business, volunteering and community.

“This outstanding response shows just what a vibrant community we live in,” said Carla Dahlen, the chair of the award committee.

Dehlen said Vernon Women in Business has been handing out the award for three decades now, and this year’s slate of nominees is record-breaking.

April 4 all 12 of the nominees will be highlighted at a special nomination event, held at Okanagan Spirits from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Right now, Dehlen says, judges are working through the very difficult task of evaluating all the nominees. At the nomination event  eight of the candidates will be named finalists.

On May 11, at the Woman of the Year Gala Dinner (taking place at the Prestige Hotel from 5:30-9:30 p.m.) the finalists will be honored and their contributions to their profession and our community will be acknowledged on stage, before a winner is chosen.

Along with being honoured with the title, the 2017 Woman of the Year recipient will receive a pearl necklace set donated by Sweet Smiles Society and a two-day stay at any Prestige Hotel and Resorts location.

Tickets to the event can be purchased here. A full list of the 2017 nominees is below
