Twenty units of affordable housing will be completed in Kelowna by fall of next year.
The housing project, located at 170 Drysdale Blvd., will be made up of a collection of two- and three-bedroom townhouse units that will be rented out as affordable housing.
That means low and medium income families can apply to live there, and pay rent at a subsidized rate.
The project was first announced in late 2016, as part of the provincial government’s $18 million investment to help build 130 units of affordable housing in Kelowna.
More than $2 million of that money went to the Drysdale project, with the City of Kelowna also supplying about $750,000 in land contributions.
“We are committed to providing housing options for all British Columbians – affordable housing for young growing families can be particularly challenging, and we’re pleased to address this need in Kelowna with 20 units of affordable rental housing through our partnership with the city,” says Norm Letnick, the MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country.
Construction will begin this fall, with the development slated to finish in one year. BC Housing will soon issue a request for a not-for-profit partner to design, construct and operate the homes.
BC Housing staff will work with the successful proponent to fully develop the project plans and ensure the proper rezoning and consultation is considered and confirmed before construction.
