Into the Dragons’ Den

After a long wait, a Penticton business will appear on the CBC’s Dragons’ Den on Wednesday.

The People’s Craft House, a local craft soda company, travelled to Toronto in May 2016 to film the segment. Co-founder Jason Cox says it’s been difficult to keep the results under wraps for so long.

“We were told we are allowed to say ‘it went well,’ so that’s been my mantra for about 10 months; ‘it went well, it went well,’” he said with a laugh.

The People’s Craft House is appearing on a special version of the long-running pitch show, which pits two similar companies against each other. The Penticton brand was paired up with Montreal’s 1642 Cola, although Cox said they were kept in the dark about their opponent until filming.

He said they were able to spend some time on set prior to meeting the dragons, getting promotional footage, something he says helped them feel “pretty comfortable on stage,” by the time they presented their idea.

“At that point, it was just the intimidation factor of these five professionals in front of us,” he added.

The company is hosting a viewing party on Wednesday at Burger 55, where doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the 8 p.m. episode.

“We have not seen the episode, I have no idea how they edited it; we filmed for a little over an hour and they’ve got to edit that down to like a 10 minute segment,” Cox said.

“At the party on Wednesday, that’ll be the first time we see it, right along with everyone else, which I think is actually pretty fun,” he said, inviting the public out to the event.
