Students from Okanagan College’s Enactus team littered the podium of the Regional Western Canada Enactus Exposition in Calgary last weekend, notching four top-three finishes, including a trio of golds.

OC’s teams bested the competition in the Financial Education, Entrepreneurship and Youth Empowerment competitions, and placed a respectable third in the Ecoliving Green competition.

Thanks to the trio of first-place finishes, thirteen of the students will test their skills at the National Exposition on May 9-11.

“This is an absolutely fantastic result for our students,” said Roy Daykin, OC’s vice president of employee and corporate services. “We know first-hand the impact our students have in our community … but to be recognized at this competition validates just how relevant their work is.”

The three winning teams included five Kelowna students who impressed the judges with their work on the CANSave project, a group who’ve done some pretty innovative work in Kelowna through the Silver Surfers program, and a quartet of mostly Vernon students who presented on the impact of the CANSave program.

“The fact that OC students are spending hours and hours of our time to make the world a better place is beyond me. These are the quality of people I want to surround myself with and this is why I love competitions,” said Christianne Edblad, one of the Vernon team members.

With the wins, Enactus Okanagan College took home three cash awards of $1,500 and one award of $500, and three chances for even more at the national competition in May.
