With more movies slated to be made in the region this year, the North Okanagan Regional District board of directors is handing over $33,000 to the Okanagan Film Commission.

“I think it’s a great organization,” said Vernon director Juliette Cunningham. “They bring a lot of money to the whole area.”

However Cunningham made it clear during a board meeting Wednesday that if film commissioner Jon Summerland wanted any more money from the region, he should approach jurisdictions that did not contribute to the funding.

Only Vernon, Coldstream and Armstrong are part of a function that helps the movie industry although Spallumcheen has now asked to join.

“I think it’s disproportionate what the three that are involved are paying yet everyone is benefiting.”

While some of the other jurisdictions give grants, including Enderby and some electoral areas, Cunningham said all areas should work under one umbrella because the whole region benefits from the movie industry, and it would bring predictable funding to the table.

Summerland recently asked the board for the $6,000 increase in funding.
