Danielle Grundy, a former female professional hockey player from Kelowna, is being recognized for her work in the community.

The Grindstone Award Foundation is a non-profit charity that will provide financial aid to female hockey players ranging from five to 18 years old. Grundy started the charity in May 2015 and it has quietly gained ground. So much so that Hockey Night in Canada will be flying out to interview her.

“It got really real today when I was sent my schedule and realized that Sportsnet is flying to Kelowna to interview me. Yikes! I guess sometimes you don’t realize the impact you are making with the smallest acts. I humbly appreciate this recognition,” she said.

Reagan Shattlock was the recipient of the Grindstone Award this spring and will be highlighted in the HNIC interview.

Hockey Night in Canada will be at the Thompson Okanagan Lakers Game on Feb. 26 to highlight Grundy and Shattlock.

“Thank you to Danielle for always believing in Reagan, and seeing her potential. You are a true inspiration,” said mother of Reagan, Ann-Marie Shattlock.
