Residents of Kelowna’s Rutland neighbourhoods are invited to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday – and the 50th anniversary of Rutland Centennial Hall – this weekend.

The Rutland Residents Association is hosting the free event on Saturday as part of Heritage Week.

It takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the hall.

Local singer Rachel Layne will sing the nation anthem, and there will be music by Jay Gartel and Lila Bourne, as well as the Kelowna Old Time Fiddlers.

Artwork chronicling Canada’s history will be on display by students from Rutland Middle School and South Rutland Elementary.

There will be other historical displays, a birthday cake, baked goodies, vegetable and fruit platters, as well as light refreshments.

Children are also invited to express their thoughts on what Canada means to them through drawings or colouring.
